Day 63-70

I missed all of my classes two weeks ago due to recitals and school responsibilities. I know I missed out on a bunch of stuff - school is killing me right now. The emotional needs of some of these students are really REALLY trying and VERY draining. Here are my notes from Feb 3 (I did the last blog post while waiting for L to finish turns with everyone), and for the past week.

I'm feeling really different in my body as of the last couple of weeks. Far more aware, far more observant of what I'm doing.

The action between arms/hips is the same, whether we are on all 4's or in the chair. I find it remarkable how much we do essentially the same action, whether sitting, standing, or prone and we don't realize its the same action!

The release in the low back is necessary to be up in the neck (head).

Reading: Use

  • Strain - conflict of the brain/nervous system vs. digestif, musculoskeletal, circulatory, etc
  • OR brain at war with all other systems
  • We prefer to deal with incidence and episodes in isolation, not as a whole
    • Fixing the problem is not finding the ROOT of the problem
      • ex. fixing an ulcer is not finding the cause and fixing the ulcer
  • Return to nature - simple life - is that REALLY going to make a difference?
    • It's coming OUT of the retreat that is the stressor  - because everything is so exaggerated after the fact.

Development leads to awareness
  • Habits vs having to make daily decisions
  • Making intelligence one of positive and constructive control
Through the body we teach ethics. What your body is living what you are living
The process of how we engage body and mind is ethics and morality - hence inhibition is ethical and moral.

Glorification of the body - seems to be a struggle

Not doing something but getting out of its way so it can actually happen in its best, most pure form.

2/15

We went back to back - shaking spines  :)
  • Listened to each other
  • Moved back and forth
  • one still, one making small adjustments in their spinal curves
  • Talking
This was SO great! Very intimate and touching really.

  • Teaching is a selfish thing. Your use defines how good of a teacher you are.
  • We are creatures of habit - we should not be taking credit for automatic stimuli
  • We have bodies!
    • Designed to move
    • we MUST be able to move
  • Thought must be focused on self, Feeling must be focused on the pupil.
  • As you think of YOUR head forward and up, FEEL the students head
We cant afford to forget to remember - Walter Carrington

2/17

Connectivity - Shape - Integration

A tree does not "shape" itself, it merely is working for connectivity, reaching for the sun, nourishment, etc.

"Life will be fine if I'm in that shape."  (Um...no.....)

Awareness must come with inhibition. Eating 25 hot dogs with all the mustard and the relish and nom nom nom.....is awareness, it is NOT inhibiting!

Lighting the stage = awareness
Actor on the stage = direction
Audience = inhibition

Talking about a really great rehearsal and the desire to reproduce:
  • This was good because of the PROCESS we went through
    • we worked
    • we assumed we needed to work
    • we paid attention
    • rest in that good place
If it's all working nothing stands out (body)
If it all falls apart do less and come back to connectivity

*Belief is a small holding

We finished the day working spirals, starting face down on the table and spriraling over shoulder and down thru the hip. No jamming in the legs, entirely connected.
